On Thursday, June 2nd, the entire children and youth area had a meeting in Holing. Here, Herning was praised by the chairman of Danish School Students and the representatives from the Joint Student Council for the collaboration they have had with the training of teaching environment representatives. At the meeting, the Joint Student Council also requested to be consulted by the municipal council.

So shouldn’t the municipality soon ask the youth?

The municipality has a responsibility to involve the coming generations in the decision-making process, as it is these generations who will have to live with the consequences of climate change.

Herning Municipality has moved in a greener direction since the election. This can be seen, among other things, by Topsoe choosing to establish its new base, the Power-to-X factory, in Herning. The company works with the storage of solar and wind energy.

Similarly, the city council has decided to establish a climate forest with 60,000 trees in collaboration with Growing Trees Network.

During the election campaign, the Social Democrats’ environmental group described the need to attract green companies and the need to create more biodiversity. It is excellent to see that the city council has taken this into consideration.

We also wrote about the need to include young people. For example, one could take inspiration from the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and establish a youth climate council, which could bring innovation into Herning’s climate policy and provide input to politicians on future climate solutions.

It is time to give young people the chance to be heard, so they are involved in the solutions of the future.
