We have read Jens Damsbo Kjærsgaard’s article “Give children and young people an association pass” (correct title: “An association pass in Herning - a community for all”, ed.).

We completely agree that all children and young people in Herning Municipality should have the chance to be part of an association. This is where strong communities are created and where children have a safe upbringing. In the Social Democrats, we work for an active association life. Therefore, we also fully support the Leisure Pass, which Herning Municipality already offers, as it can pay for association activities.

Jens Damsbo Kjærsgaard suggests 1000 kroner per year, but the current Leisure Pass can actually provide up to double that amount. It is a good opportunity for young people to become part of the community. But unfortunately, too few know about it.

We need to make the Leisure Pass much more visible. What good is a great offer if no one knows it exists? We must work hard to ensure that all parents and children know about the Leisure Pass. In this way, even more children and young people can become part of the communities in association life. No one should be left out, especially not for financial reasons. We must dare to invest in our children’s and young people’s well-being by making the offers we have known to everyone.

By making the Leisure Pass known to everyone, we help the local associations. At the same time, we strengthen the strong, inclusive communities that are so important for Herning Municipality. Let us all help more children and young people experience the joy of association life.
