70% in 2030 - are we doing enough?
The Social Democrats and their supporting parties have the climate on the agenda, and here in the municipality, we are also ready to take responsibility. There is no time to sit on our hands; we need to get to work because 2030 is just around the corner. Therefore, the Social Democrats, together with their supporting parties, have decided on a roadmap for the 70% reduction by 2030. It contains 24 political initiatives and must be in place by 2025. With the 70% target, the Social Democrats have also been able to put pressure on the EU, so a reduction target of 55% has now been adopted throughout the EU.
We need to utilize the resources we already have. For example, we must harness the wind when it blows and the light when the sun shines. Yet, from time to time, we see that the wind turbines stand still in windy weather. The reason for this is that we have nowhere to store the energy that can be produced. The solution can be found in the use of hydrogen technology with Power-to-X. In this way, we can store solar and wind energy and use it when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing.
The agricultural agreement is also an important part of achieving the 70% target. An ambitious agricultural agreement with a 7.4 million-ton CO2 reduction by 2030 has just been adopted – and for the first time ever, agriculture has been committed to a binding climate target. Among other things, the removal of 100,000 hectares of the climate-damaging lowland soils and riparian areas by 2030 contributes to the reduction.
The political effort is finally underway, and the technology is also available or under development. It is absolutely necessary to have the public’s acceptance and ownership of the green initiatives.
Denmark must be a green superpower!
